Build systems that
trade profitably

We are a high-frequency trading firm. Our goal isn’t just shaving microseconds, it’s trading profitably. You get high leverage, direct feedback, and absolute ownership.

The Work

Engineering at Wincent is driven by the bottleneck that matters most

The work changes based on what is holding us back. We focus on the limiting factor, whether that is architecture, tooling, infrastructure, exchange connectivity, or performance-critical code.

How we think about it

We do not optimize for speed alone. A change matters when it improves trading outcomes, reduces risk, or makes the system easier to reason about under pressure.

Sometimes the right answer is to go deeper on latency. Sometimes it is to simplify a system, redesign an interface, or build better tools.

You cannot make good technical tradeoffs in isolation. We expect you to understand how the pieces fit together and solve the right problem.

Where the constraint tends to live

In practice, the work tends to concentrate in a few places: production systems, architecture, infrastructure, tooling, and performance-critical code. Engineers follow the constraint, not the org chart.

Trading paths & production systems

When execution, capacity, reliability, or observability on the hot path is what limits the business.

Architecture &
the real constraint

When the hard part is figuring out what to optimize or unblocking flow by simplifying design.

Markets & connectivity

When exchange behavior, venue integration, or market-facing plumbing is the bottleneck.

Tooling &
leverage

When better tools help engineers or traders move faster with fewer mistakes.

How we work

Small teams. Direct feedback. Real ownership.

Engineers work close to the systems, the traders, and the decisions their code affects.

We say things as they are. We prefer direct communication over long reporting chains. If there is a problem, talk to the people involved and fix it.

Feedback is direct and specific. We judge the mistake, not the person. A good decision can improve the company. A bad decision can lose money. We care about fixing the issue, not protecting the ego.

Ownership means staying with the problem until it creates value. A project is not shipped when the code is merged. It is shipped when the system is better.

No long reporting chains

Talk to the person who has the context. Fix the problem with them.

Close to trading

Understand how your work affects execution, reliability, latency, or decision logic.

Direct feedback

Bad decisions get challenged. Good decisions get copied. Both happen openly.

Ownership until value

You own the outcome, not just the ticket, branch, or deployment.

Where we work

Bratislava is our center, but we build from across Europe

A large part of the engineering team is based in Bratislava. Others work remotely from countries including Czechia, Poland, Finland, and Portugal, coming on-site regularly to spend time with the team.

Bratislava city scenery

Bratislava office

Real team, real place, regular in-person collaboration.

Horizontal structure

Fewer layers between decision and execution.

Horizontal structure

Fewer layers between decision and execution.

We believe in the value of being in the same room. Our headquarters is where we gather to solve hard problems quickly and whiteboard new systems.

But we don’t force everyone to live in one place. Remote engineers travel on-site regularly to maintain high-bandwidth communication.

What matters is staying close to the systems you build, not where you sit.

What we look for

We hire problem solvers

A finance or trading background is not required. We look for people who reason across complex systems and raise the bar.

We hire for ownership, judgment, and shipping. We care less about a CV full of titles and more about what you built, how much you owned, and how you moved the day it broke.

Note: The strongest signals are systems you built from scratch, bugs you tracked down across services, and decisions you made when the data was incomplete.

Trading Core Engineering

Build exchange connectivity, order execution, and real-time market data systems where correctness and latency both matter.

Algo Engineering

Turn quant ideas into production trading logic. Work with researchers, test behavior, and ship systems that affect live PnL.

Infrastructure & DevOps

Improve global connectivity, observability, deployment, and reliability for a 24/7 trading system.

Tooling & DevEx

Build internal tools that help traders, quants, finance, and operations move faster with fewer mistakes.

Engineers at Wincent

The best way to understand the company is to hear directly from the team

Engineers here describe the work as high-agency, technically demanding, and closely tied to business outcomes. They are expected to own problems, work across functions, and help find the solution that actually matters.

They also describe the culture in practical terms: direct feedback, low politics, and openness that depends on people being clear with each other.

Our goal is not to shave off some miniscule amounts of time. Our main goal is to trade profitably. If it means we need to redefine our core algorithm and the decision logic, we will do that.

I get a lot more agency here. I am expected to really own my problems. And not only expected, but allowed to. Engineers get a lot of leverage.

People here, they say things as they are. We are not trying to beat around the bush when there’s a problem, we are trying to talk about it.

The god emperor of engineering would be someone who can take a look at the whole system and find the bottleneck. Find the thing where it makes the most sense to optimize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions candidates often ask before applying.

What’s the engineering culture like at Wincent?

We value transparency, ownership, and integrity. We say things as they are: no fluff, BS, no politics. You’ll work with top engineers who care deeply about building great systems and helping each other grow.

Wincent has around 150 people in total, about 60 of them are engineers. Our teams are small, autonomous, and highly specialized, giving you freedom to make impactful decisions.

No. We keep meetings minimal and focused. Engineers spend their time coding, designing, and solving problems, not sitting in status updates.

Feedback is direct and transparent. It is provided immediately, with regular monthly feedback sessions and a major performance session every six months.

Our stack depends on the team. Common choices include Rust, C++, TypeScript, Python, and Node.js, with React for frontend tools. As a candidate, you don’t need to have working experience with Rust or C++ as long as you’re keen to learn it.

Not at all. Most of our engineers come from top software companies, math or physics backgrounds, not finance. We value strong algorithmic thinking, system design, and problem-solving skills, not prior trading experience.

Yes. We support visa sponsorship and relocation for exceptional candidates. Our hiring process and relocation team handle the logistics to make your transition smooth.

We provide a family-friendly environment with unlimited vacation (within reasonable boundaries), flexible scheduling, and benefits like all-day office catering, mental health support, and parental leave. Bratislava also offers excellent safety and quality of life for families.

We only ask for a 2-week onboarding and quarterly visits in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Most roles are office-first, as we value high collaboration and low latency in both trading and decision-making. While we prefer onsite collaboration (we are more than happy to provide relocation support if needed), remote work can be negotiated for senior engineers with strong track records.

A substantial part of our engineering team works from Bratislava, and we encourage engineers to relocate here to benefit from close collaboration, great cost of living, and an active engineering community. That said, we also have team members in other European locations.

Bratislava offers low living costs, very low income tax compared to other Western countries, and one of the safest environments in Europe. The city’s location gives you access to Vienna, Budapest, and Prague within just a few hours driving.

Yes. We provide comprehensive relocation support including visa sponsorship, assistance with moving logistics, and help settling in Bratislava. For EU citizens, the package equals one month’s base salary, and for those outside the EU, it’s two months’ salary.

Yes. We equip you with high-performance hardware suited for your role — whether you’re optimizing systems, building trading infrastructure, or developing internal tools. You’ll have what you need to work efficiently from day one.

We match candidates with teams based on technical background, interests, and impact potential. During the interview process, we discuss available teams and find the best fit together. We also strive to tailor each position to the individual skills and expertise. Even if you join a specific team and we later discover together that your strengths might be a better fit elsewhere, we are very open to internal transfers.

We offer competitive, above-market compensation tailored to your expertise, seniority, and local residency. The typical base salary range is €80,000 – €150,000 per year, with the final offer reflecting each candidate’s individual experience and depth of technical skill. We can go even higher on base salary in specific cases.

In addition to the base salary, every six months, we celebrate impact. A performance bonus is tied directly to both individual excellence and the fund’s overall performance. When the team wins, you win too. In some exceptional cases, our engineers could get more than 50% of yearly total compensation in bonuses.

Yes. You can choose to allocate a portion of your salary toward equity, and employees can also invest in our proprietary fund, which has built a strong track record since 2017. You share the company’s success: when the firm wins, so do you. The equity fund is being regularly reevaluated and has an upward trajectory.

Absolutely. We hire the top 0.1% and give them freedom to expand their scope fast. We encourage internal mobility and project ownership, not titles and bureaucracy.

We have a high-trust culture. As long as you deliver and collaborate effectively, you can shape your schedule around your peak productivity times.

Our process typically includes:

  1. Introductory call with a recruiter
  2. Take-home algorithmic challenge (it usually takes 2-3 hours)
  3. Technical interviews (coding, system design, or DevOps topics)
  4. Soft skills interview

The entire process is online and efficient, typically completed within three-four weeks.
More details about the interview process are provided for each position.

Engineers teams provide a 24/7 on-call service. Oncall duty is one week long, Engineers switch every week. The compensation for the 7-day week of on-call service is extra 5% of the base (monthly cash) salary.

Yes. Wincent generates returns when the market is active; our profitability is not directly tied to the appreciation (or depreciation) of any one particular crypto asset. We have access to an $750+ million fund, giving us long-term stability and complete independence from market hype.

Yes. Every new engineer has a dedicated onboarding buddy and support from their Team Lead. You’ll also have your entire team to help you ramp up quickly, share context, and make your first weeks smooth and productive.
